Meet Dan Glickman: Supporting Franchise Owners to Thrive at Sylvian Care

In this edition of our Meet the Team series, we’re introducing Dan Glickman, Head of Business Support, whose career spans operational leadership, healthcare management, and more than a decade as a franchise owner himself.

Dan plays a vital role in helping Sylvian Care business owners navigate challenges, unlock growth, and build thriving care services rooted in connection and compassion.

Tell us about yourself. What was your background before joining Sylvian? 

Before Sylvian, I had a career in senior operational management, initially in I.T. I then led several business call centres, as well as the operations department for a private hospital. Within that time, I also ran my own franchise business for around twelve years, where I developed and launched my own services. After that, I worked for six years as a Business Support Partner for an international home care franchise. It was this which then led me to my role at Sylvian Care. 

 

What does an average day at Sylvian look like for you? 

However much they are planned no two days are ever the same. In a typical day, I start by responding to emails and support queries from our business owners. I then review the performance and financials of the whole network, and track against previous months – checking that we’re on track. Then I prep for any scheduled meetings for the day ahead - looking into the performance of the individual office, and referring to notes or actions from our previous meeting.  

Interspersed throughout the day, I’ll be responding to queries by call, email, or on Teams. I’ll also work on various projects in the background, such as systems, external partners, and developing tools for improving our network support.  

 

Do you have any personal anecdotes or memories that stand out from your time here? 

I think the main thing for me is New Owner Training, which is a dedicated week of learning for franchise owners starting their journey with us. There’s always a real passion and drive from these owners who are at the starting point – often they don’t know the sector, systems, processes, but are ready to absorb everything we share with them. We’re getting them out of the starting blocks and it’s a really exciting time.  

 

I work with owners at all different stages, and like in any business, sometimes things don’t move forward in the way they would like them to. Seeing them evolve and supporting them through any hurdles they face, and into growth is a big passion of mine. 

 

What is the most rewarding part of working here? 

It’s the working relationship I have with our franchise owners. They come from very varied backgrounds – some may have worked in corporate careers, finance some in other spheres like nursing etc.. This brings a range of different backgrounds, and skill-sets, but what unites them all is their approach. They put their life, their heart and soul into growing their business. Everything they’ve got goes into this. I see a lot of passion and drive to make it work. Seeing them grow, develop and build their business is what really drives me. 

 

What do you think makes Sylvian stand out in the elder care provider market? 

It’s undoubtedly the people and culture. Lots of companies say that, and it’s become a bit of a stock phrase, but I truly believe it applies at Sylvian. We’re not relying on a reputation earned in the past; we’re defined by how we actually work today. 

We genuinely live and breathe our values every day, and that’s what makes us stand out at every level of the business. We practice what we preach, and that consistency is what matters most.
